Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

RIIMSM306D - Design, develop and maintain pillar system and ground control

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Plan and prepare for design, develop and maintain pillar system and ground control

  1. Access, interpret and apply pillar system and ground control documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
  2. Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  3. Select and wear appropriate personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
  4. Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
  5. Select, and check for faults, relevant tools/equipment for the activity
  6. Determine location of materials/ore to determine design parameters
  7. Identify the potential hazards which could have an effect on pillar design and layout
  8. Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
  9. Identify the characteristics and properties of the roof to determine the span that can stand unsupported
  10. Identify ground conditions where secondary support will be needed
  11. Evaluate the effect of any adjacent mines and incorporate in pillar design
